2023 ALBARIÑO
BEST OF CLASS - Sunset International Wine Competition
94 POINTS - Wine Enthusiast
"This wine is bright, lifted, with aromas of green mango, pineapple, peach, white flowers, and dried herbs. The flavors on the palate are citrus blossoms, White grapefruit segments, white tea, generous acidity, and a long mouth watering finish. It's like skipping in the sunshine." — Tonya Pitts, Wine Enthusiast
TASTING NOTES
Pale straw in hue, this Spanish varietal exudes vibrant aromas of ripe citrus fruits, including lemon and grapefruit, alongside delicate hints of white flowers and subtle mineral nuances. Its crisp and refreshing profile, coupled with elevated acidity, makes it light to medium-bodied. On the palate, the citrus notes persist, complemented by a subtle salinity and a pleasing bitterness that contributes depth and complexity. The wine culminates in a long and lingering finish. Exhibiting the quintessential traits of the Albariño grape, it strikes a harmonious balance and exudes elegance. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood, shellfish, and light fare.
PRODUCTION NOTES
The Albariño is planted in three different blocks in the Coble Ranch Vineyard in the Winters Highlads AVA. The blocks vary in location throughout the vineyard with the most recent being planted in 2017. The sites are hilly with well drained gravely loam soil. The Albariño was harvested in three picks, each of which are specifically calibrated to achieve optimal flavor profiles and fruit extraction. Grapes were picked at 18 Brix to preserve natural acidity.
The Albariño is pressed in a bladder press upon arrival at the winery, it is then racked to a tank to be cold settled. Once the juice is settled, we transfer it to a new tank where we inoculate using various yeast strains. Fermentation was conducted in 40% stainless steel and 60% neutral Acacia barrels and stirred on the lees.
500 cases produced.
